Goliath Safaris Tented Camp has operated and run walking and canoeing safaris in Mana Pools National Park for close on thirty years. Stretch Ferreira, the founder and co-owner of Goliath has operated in Mana Pools for over 25 years and was one of the pioneers of canoe trails and luxury tented safaris in the area. Today he is based at our semi-permanent Luxury Tented Camp on the banks of the Zambezi River in the heart of Mana Pools National Park, a World Heritage Site and one of the last true wilderness areas on the continent.
Goliath’s flagship is undoubtedly our luxury tented camp in the heart of the park and situated just meters from the rivers edge. Our luxury en suite East African tents are nestled in among a grove of Albida and Mahogany trees.
Each tent has twin beds with teak furnishings which include a wardrobe and dressing table. En suite facilities include flush toilets, hot showers and a washstand. Public areas comprise of a covered lounge and bar, an open-air dining area and riverside campfire seating. All meals, drinks and activities are included in the daily rate. Please advise us beforehand of any special dietary requirements.
Most days typically begin with tea/coffee, rusks and porridge around the fire at sunrise. Soon after you will leave for the mornings walk with Stretch. This will vary in time and distance depending on the animals around. It may involve tracking lions or the wild-dog, sitting with an elephant bull, following a herd of buffalo, or all of the above. Mid-way through your walk/ game drive you will stop for tea and biscuits and some quiet time on the rivers edge. Thereafter you’ll continue with game viewing or birdwatching until returning for a late morning full English breakfast/brunch.
After resting for a few hours tea and cake will be served or a light snack. Thereafter, Stretch will discuss your choices for the afternoon with you. They may involve a game drive, a canoe trip or another walk. Please note that these activities are very flexible and are often decided in an instant depending on which animals are in the vicinity.
Drinks at sunset on the rivers edge are a perfect way to end the day before returning to camp for a hot shower. Dinner is a 3 course meal accompanied by wine, served in our open-air dining area. Coffee around the fire rounds off a perfect day.
Some days may involve full day picnics to the wilderness area or Chitake. Fishing is also always an option but we do suggest that you bring your own equipment and bait.

“Stayed at Goliath for 6 days – all the reviews here are accurate. The team in the camp generally are excellent – of course Stretch is a real character and a great guide, but Sean / Reuben and the others in the team are superb too. The tents give you all you need – nice showers and comfy beds which you fall into well with dreams (or nightmares) of the close encounters you will have had during the day. There is a real respect for the animals, but equally an awareness which allows you to be close to lions, wild dogs, elephants amongst others. Food is superb as well – bush fish and chips – the fish freshly caught in the river that day, was probably the highlight amongst many. The camp itself is relaxing although elephants walking through camp keeps you on your toes. Anyone thinking about this place should go – I doubt you will regret it.” –Voldadbird
“I knew that this would be a wonderful place and I knew that Stretch was an amazing Guide but I never in my wildest dreams thought that it would turn out to be quite such a wonderful and amazing experience! I will never ever forget being that close to lions making like Harley Davidsons and feeling so overwhelmed with the wonder of it and having such complete trust in Stretch. There were close ups with elephants and a wonderful sighting of wild dogs doing their thing. The camp is luxury the food delicious and the staff caring and experienced. Great all round” –robinsX2
“You live & breath Africa, the beauty of Mana Pools, the richness of the wildlife. This is unique, you track & experience the varied wildlife. Stretch Ferreira, Flo & their team are the best in the business. You are out 10 hours a day with the animals, you are part of their lives. Food is great, company even better. Simply one of life’s great experiences. If you love photography, wildlife & Africa with an edge, then this is for you.” –auarnm
